McKibben Boating Center of Sebring is an Epic Carts dealer at 7500 US Hwy 27 S, Sebring, FL 33876. Yes, a boat dealer that sells golf carts. It makes more sense than it sounds, because in Highlands County the two usually end up in the same driveway.

Think about how carts actually get used around here. A lakefront lot on Lake Jackson or Lake June-in-Winter where the dock sits a long walk downhill from the house. A fish camp on Istokpoga where the truck stays parked and everything else moves by cart. A home in Sun 'n Lake or Spring Lake where the cart handles the short trips the car does not need to make.

Epic Carts is the upscale line from the ICON family of golf cart brands, built around lithium power and the kind of features people used to expect only in a car. Below is the Epic FX range, the golf cart and LSV question in plain terms, and how to set a cart up for the way people live on the water here.

New & Used Epic Carts for Sale in Sebring

Colors, seating and options vary by shipment. Treat this as an outline of the Epic FX series, then check live inventory or call for what is on the floor today.

E20FX two seater

The two passenger E20FX is the compact of the range. It is short enough to park beside a boat trailer in a garage and easy to turn around at the end of a narrow dock path.

It suits a couple who mostly ride together, or a single owner who wants the rear of the cart kept free for a cooler, tackle and a cast net.

E40FX four seater

The E40FX is the one most families here choose. Four seats, lithium power, four wheel disc brakes and a touchscreen display, with Epic offering it in lifted and non-lifted heights.

Standard height is easier to climb into and handles paved streets well. Lifted suits sandy lots and grass paths down to the water. Try both before you decide.

E60FX six seater

When the grandchildren come for the holidays, six seats stop the cart from making two trips to the dock. Epic fits the E60FX with a backup camera, a 10.1 inch display and double wishbone independent suspension.

It is a long cart, so measure your garage and your turning space at the house before you fall for it.

Lake life setup

For lake use, the additions that earn their keep are a full enclosure or cover for summer storms, a rear seat kit that flips into a cargo deck, rod storage and a way to secure a cooler.

Tell us what you carry to the water and we will fit it before delivery. Wiring and lighting are best done in the shop rather than in a driveway.

Golf Cart or LSV: What Florida Allows

Epic builds its FX carts with street oriented equipment, but in Florida what a cart can legally do depends on how it is classified and titled, not only on the parts bolted to it. There are two categories, and the difference decides where you can drive.

A golf cart in Florida is limited to 20 mph. It may only be driven on roads that the local government has designated for golf cart use, which are generally posted at 30 mph or less. Operators under 18 need a learner's license or a driver license, and operators 18 and over need a government-issued photo ID.

A low speed vehicle, or LSV, has a top speed above 20 mph and up to 25 mph and may use roads posted at 35 mph or less. It must be titled, registered and insured with PIP and PDL coverage, and the driver needs a valid driver license. Required equipment includes headlamps, turn signals, stop and tail lamps, reflectors, mirrors, a parking brake, a windshield, seat belts and a VIN.

Neighborhoods around Sebring handle this differently. Some streets are designated for carts, and many are not. Communities and HOAs may add their own rules. Before you buy, tell us where you plan to drive, and confirm the current rules with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and your local government.

Weighing another brand? We also carry Icon EV carts on the same floor. Our Icon EV golf cart page compares the two lines side by side.

Epic Carts Service and Parts in Sebring

The same shop that looks after outboards and trailers also services golf carts. We handle brakes, tires, steering and suspension, lighting, chargers and charging problems, controller and battery diagnosis, and accessory installs on Epic Carts and on carts bought elsewhere.

Lake life is harder on a cart than a paved subdivision. Carts that run down to a dock pick up sand in the brakes and suspension, and carts parked near the water live in damp air every night. Rinse the underside after sandy runs, keep the cart covered or under a roof, and keep it out of standing water, since it is still an electric vehicle.

Summer storms bring the other common problem: a cart left out in the rain with its seats and display exposed. A fitted cover or enclosure costs very little compared to replacing sun cracked vinyl or a water damaged screen.

Financing and Trades

You can apply for financing online before you visit, and if you are buying a boat as well, ask whether the cart can go into the same deal. Rate, term and approval depend on credit and are not guaranteed in advance.

Trade-ins are welcome, older lead acid carts included. The battery pack is usually the biggest factor in what a used cart is worth, so bring the cart in rather than describing it over the phone, and bring any receipts for battery replacement.

Manufacturer programs come and go. Call and ask what is running on Epic Carts when you are ready to buy.

Setting Up an Epic Cart for Highlands County Lake Life

Walk the route from the house to the dock

Lakefront lots around Sebring and Lake Placid often drop toward the water on grass or sand. Look at the steepest part of the path, the softest part, and where you will turn around at the bottom. That route tells you more about lifted versus standard height, and about tire choice, than any brochure will.

Plan for the fish camp, not just the driveway

A cart at a camp on Istokpoga or the Kissimmee side hauls ice, bait, rods and people across uneven ground. A rear seat that flips to a flat cargo deck gets used constantly. So does a secure spot for a cooler that does not slide off when you hit a root.

Think about summer if you are seasonal

Many owners in Sun 'n Lake, Spring Lake and Lake Placid spend summers up north. Before you leave, charge the lithium pack as the manual directs, store the cart under cover, and ask us how to leave it for months. A cart that is ready when you get back in the fall is the goal.

Decide who is driving

Grandchildren love a golf cart. Florida sets license and ID requirements for golf cart operators on public roads, and your neighborhood may add rules of its own. Settle this before the first visit, not in the driveway.

Buying a used Epic or any used cart

Ask for the battery type and age, check that the charger works and matches the pack, look for rust under the floor and around the frame, test the brakes on a slope, and turn on every light and signal. If the cart is sold as an LSV, confirm the title and VIN match the cart.

Are Epic Carts street legal in Florida?

An Epic Cart is street legal in Florida only if it is titled, registered and insured as a low speed vehicle and meets the LSV equipment rules. LSVs may use roads posted at 35 mph or less. A cart used as a golf cart is limited to roads designated by local government. Confirm current rules with FLHSMV before driving.

Who makes Epic golf carts?

Epic Carts is part of the ICON family of golf cart brands, which also includes Icon EV. Epic is positioned as the more upscale line, with the FX series built around lithium power and features such as a touchscreen display and backup camera. We sell both Epic and Icon EV at our Sebring store.

How fast can a golf cart go on Florida roads?

A golf cart in Florida is limited to a top speed of 20 mph and may only use roads designated by the local government, generally posted at 30 mph or less. A low speed vehicle can go faster than 20 mph and up to 25 mph, but it must be titled, registered and insured. Check local rules before driving.

Can I charge an Epic Cart at the dock?

You can charge an Epic Cart at the dock if there is a properly installed, weather protected outlet suited to the charger and the cart can sit clear of standing water and spray. Avoid long or light duty extension cords. Follow the charging instructions in the owner's manual, and have an electrician check any dock circuit you are unsure about.
